- THE FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN OF HAITI recommends the following immunizations for personnel working in Haiti as a mission volunteer.
- Hepatitis A
Adults: Primary dose 1440 EL.U./1m1 given IM, booster needed 6-12 mo. for prolonged immunity.- Hepatitis B
- 1st dose, 2nd dose, 3rd dose
Adults: 20meq/m1 0 1 mo. 6 mo.- Typhoid
Vivotif Berna Vaccine (oral), one capsule every other day for 4 doses (repeat every 5 years).- Tetanus - Diphtheria
Adults should have D-T every 10 years (last scheduled D-T is usually for 9th grade physical).- FOTCOH is not responsible for the personal medical choices made by participants in medical missions to Haiti.
- Hepatitis A
While working in Haiti as a FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN OF HAITI medical mission volunteer you should carry the following with you at all times (in secure belt bag or fanny pack):
- Airline ticket
- Re-entry pass
- Additional photo ID
- Emergency currency
- Passport (keep an additional paper copy in your carry-on bag).
- Medical instruments (very helpful if you have...)
- Stethoscope, Pen light / Otoscope, Scissors
- Consider taking the following clothing and personal items and supplies*
- Scrubs, 2-3 sets
- Skirt, 1-2
- Shorts, 1-2 pairs
- Jeans, 1 pair
- Blouse / shirt, 2-3
- Panties / briefs, 2-3
- Bras, 2-3
- Sox, 2-3 pair
- Sleepwear
- Swimsuit
- Tennis shoes,1 pair
- Sandals, 1 pair
- Hat
- Toiletries
- Other personal items:
- Sunscreen, Insect repellent, Flashlight / batteries, Camera / Film, Notebook / Pen, Watch / alarm clock.
- * All clothing and personal items must fit in a single carry-on bag. Do not take cell phones, pagers or jewelry.
